The Suggested Behavior at Speed Dating Events

I have to admit, this is rather unfamiliar thing for me, because this kind of events are rare and not common in Australia. But I spent some time on the Internet and I think I have an idea what is it all about, and I also remember seeing something like this in movies.

This event is about meeting single ladies or gentlemen, like a cocktail party, you meet few people in your preferred age group. You spend few minutes chatting with each of the dates, enough time to figure out who would like to see again. At the end of the event participants submit to the organizers a list of who they would like to provide their contact information to.

As in all events it is important to arrive at the right time. If you show up late, you instantly make a bad first impression. Arrive before the beginning so you would have time to prepare yourself, and calmly enjoy the event.

Wear something comfortable, but also at the same time that looks good on you. The first impression is extremely important on these events, so do your best in looking good, with nice and sharp outfit.

Have a list of things to talk about, be prepared, and know what you are looking for from your dates. Open the conversation with the basics about what you do for living, where do you live and what you like to do in your free time. You do not want to run out of things to talk and just stare at each other.

Respect your dates. Even if you do not find them attractive, or interesting, hear what they have to say. Do not make fun of them or their interests.

And I think that the most important thing to remember when you go speed dating is just to have fun and leave your expectations at the door. Don’t try to find your perfect match, but don’t expect that everyone in there is a creep. Even if you don’t end up with a single date out of these events, they’re a great way to meet some new faces and practice small talk skills.
